Mamasan Bali

a very good friend of mine recommended this new restaurant to me. she told me that this restaurant is always full and i have to make a reservation days before. so before i flew to Bali, i already called them to book table for dinner on Thursday night. (yes, it's highly recommended to make a reservation)

i thought the restaurant was bigger but it's just a medium sized two storey building nestled in the corner of Jalan raya Kerobokan. Nothing fancy from the outside. But when you enter the place, you will get hooked by its ambiance as you can see from the pictures below

and now let's discuss about the food:) the menu was typed with old-fashioned manual typewriter font. quite unique!:)
they divided the menu into the selection of: asian bites, salads, woks, crispy things, tandoori, curries & braises, side dishes and desserts.
i read the menu and tempted to order more but i remembered that my friend warned me the portion is big enough for sharing. so, i finally ordered 4 menus

1. Yam Talay of squid shrimp & fish with onion, tomato, asian celery and chili lime dressing 110 k
the squid, shrimp and fish were superb! really fresh and not chewy at all. it's a good starter for appetizer.

2. Crispy whole fish with three-flavor sauce wild ginger turmeric pineapple chili and tamarind 150k
this one is my favorite. the medium sized fish was deep fried into the right crispyness and the three flavor sauce was really perfect! it had a right combination of sour, sweet, and salty taste.

3. Green curry of sliced beef with bamboo, long bean apple eggplant & thai basil  125k
the curry was a bit too watery for my taste. but overal the taste of curry was sweet and rich! it might be favorite for those who can't eat spicy curry.

4. Stir fried rice with egg green peas sweet corn and green shallot 60k
not just a regular fried rice that you usually order! the style is similiar with yang-chow fried rice. fragrant, not too oily, and very comforting!

my rate for Mamasan is 4 out of 5 stars:) can hardly wait for my second visit there!
